My Working Life

I am Angela Farrell and I have just turned 47 years old…. I just don’t know where the time has gone !!

For 25 years I worked in the Pharmaceutical Industry starting as a Trainee Medical Representative and working my way up to Management level.
How I ended up in this profession was by pure accident. I had just completed my A levels in English, French, German & Russian (as you can see, I was quite interested in languages !)  I decided that I would take a year out and earn some money for me to go to University to study French & German. My plan was to live & work in France and immerse myself in their culture and, perhaps one day, marry a Frenchman & live happily ever after.

Well, it didn’t quite work out that way !! I managed to get a temporary job at a local newspaper selling advertising space. They paid me well and I managed to save a bit of money. However, when I took an ad for a Pharmaceutical company advertising for local representatives to sell dermatology products, it particularly interested me because they were offering a Company car. I was driving an old beaten up Morris Minor at that time. I really needed a reliable car so I thought it would be a good idea to apply for the job, get the car and leave after 6 months when it would be time for me to go to University.
My qualifications were in languages and it stated that science qualifications were necessary. However, that did not put me off and I sent off my CV with a letter attached stating WHY they should give me an interview.

I got the interview AND they offered me the job. I had gained some sales experience through my job at the newspaper and they could see that I was a very competitive and determined person. It was these qualities which helped me get that job.
I remember being so proud when I got my Company car and a salary then of £6K ( which was excellent)

Within a very short period of time, I was achieving my targets and objectives and building up good relationships with my customers who were GPs, Dermatologists, Nurses & Pharmacisits. I won several awards and became TOP sales Rep.
When the time came for me to take my place at University, I had begun to feel that I could make a real career in this industry and so, deferred my place for another year.

25 years later I was still working for the same Company !!  How that happened I just do not know… time had gone so quickly. The Company and the people were the very best I could have hoped for and I enjoyed my job immensely.

The skills I learned in that Company have now served me well in developing my own businesses.  I am very fortunate that I am highly motivated and very driven. Leading a sales Team & motivating each person to achieve their full potential was very important to me & was very rewarding.

And, this is why I feel passionate about uncovering and discovering the Potential within each one of us and making the most of that potential to create a life which is the best possible, not only in business but also in our personal life.

I have been very lucky to have the support of a very close family throughout my life who have stood by me in what ever decisions I made.

My family became even more important to me when, at the beginning of this year, it seemed that my World fell apart. I have always been self confident, self assured, believed that I could achieve anything I put my mind to, independant, driven, competitive & passionate.

During my working life, I had to deal with & manage many different people with very different characteristics. I have been faced with many challenging & stressful situations during my 25 years but always faced those challenges and stresses ‘head on’ and found solutions and a way forward.

However, at the beginning of this year, my new boss was appointed and the outcome of that appointment changed me from a self confident, outgoing person with high self esteem to becoming highly stressed, anxious, depressed,feeling worthless, and not able to function on a day to day basis.

This devastated me as I could not really understand HOW it was happening. I knew the CAUSE of it, but was not able to understand why I had been affected so badly. You see, I am a person who likes to feel in control and I could not control what was happening to me.

It overwhelmed me emotionally to the extent that I had no interest in ANYTHING. I hid myself away and spent most of my time on my own. Even taking the dog for a walk was too much effort (and I love my dog to bits). I would spend my days either crying or cursing myself to ’snap out of it’

I had not experienced anything like this in my life before.It was so alien and frightening for me. I had never been in a dark place like this before and the whole thing was so consuming for me. The feeling of anxiousness the whole time made me really tired but I was not able to sleep properly and developed horribly vivid nightmares when I did.  The whole situation was so emotionally draining that if it was not for the support of my husband, family, my fabulous GP and my Psychologist, I believe I would have had a ‘nervous breakdown’

It has taken many months to come through this phase in my life BUT when I look back now I realise that I had not found my Full Potential working for that Company. My new boss did me the biggest favour EVER. I can see now that I was stuck in a rut and had been for many years without realising it. He was the catalyst I needed to change my life. I knew I could never go back to a work in a situation like that again & did not want to get a different job within the Industry.

I therefore, thought about what I would REALLY like to do with my life.

I had already bought a few buy-to-let properties with my husband and sister for long term investment & now, with the ‘credit crunch’ upon us and house prices dropping in value so much, this would be an excellent opportunity to buy more. So my sister & I set up our new Company - Sister Properties http://www.sisterproperties.com. More about that in the Property section where I will be sharing our experiences with you and guiding you through the process of buying properties that produce positive cashflow to allow you to earn an income passively. I will also be recommending some experts for you to network with.

I also had a fascination with Internet Marketing although I knew nothing about it. I therefore, embarked on a journey to understand the process of setting up an online business. I saw this initially as a way to grow our Property Business but then realised the Huge Opportunities to run successful online businesses in things I felt passionate about. And that is how this site came to fruition. I will be recommending several Experts to you throughout the site who have helped me to become very successful Online.

I also realised that in order to become successful you HAVE to Network with Experts in your chosen niche. Better still, to get yourself a mentor who can guide & support you. I have a mentor for Internet marketing and my sister & I have our property mentor. Since having these mentors, the businesses have exploded. I also have a Coach who keeps me on track with my goals.

All in all, I was a very Successful Sales Manager when I had my J.O.B (Just over Broke). However, my life has been incredible since I left that Job in that I overcame Depression to build a Property Portfolio and Several Internet Businesses and lead a life that most people only dream of.

It is only now that I am beginning to reach my full potential…….
